Beirut, 7th June 2009 (Martin Waehlisch) ()

By Maryam Hoballah

Throughout the day, several incidents have been reported that involve the ill treatment of certain sects or political party followers depending on the area. Take one occurrence that happened to a woman voting in the Wardieh area of Hamra. She showed up to vote and once her religion was discovered as being Sunni, she was sent to the back of the line. She, then, moved to the line for Christian voters, hoping to get through more quickly. However, again she was turned away once her religion came up. Supposedly, the Christian and Shiite voters were given easier access to the voting booths as their lines moved more quickly and the process was handled more efficiently on their behalf.
