Bio:
Phil is a British writer, reporter and television producer who has specialised in international relations. He has covered Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas during a 30-year career in journalism. He has written widely and presented or produced over 50 documentaries.
He has won a dozen international awards, including two each from the Royal Television Society, New York and Monte Carlo Television Festivals. For nine years he was a BBC foreign correspondent and senior producer on the BBC’s flagship global affairs programme.
In 2006, Phil set up an independent TV production company based in London. Out of Office Films has made documentaries for Channel 4, ZDF, STV (Sweden) and in 2009, Phil presented a six-part series for Al Jazeera Network, roughly based on his book Dining with Terrorists.
Phil appears regularly as a commentator on international issues relating to the Middle East, al-Qa’eda, the war in Afghanistan, and so forth for international broadcasters including al Jazeera, BBC, Channel 4 News, Russia Today, Press TV and others. He also regularly addresses students and academic bodies and presents a weekly international affairs show on the UK cable station concerning events in the Muslim world.
