About Abdi Latif
Abdi Latif is a journalism student at the United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi, Kenya, doing a minor in International Relations and a concentration in Print Media. He describes himself as naturally reserved but remains passionate and outspoken about issues that interest him.
He likes writing about religion; in an attempt to bring back dialogue to an issue that has remained somewhat sensitive and divisive since the tragic September 11 attacks in the US. He also touches on topics such as global politics, diplomacy, democracy, culture as well as economy.
He is an avid photographer and also hosts a show on the campus radio titled, ‘The Africa Weekly’ where he discusses current news in Africa as well as politics and society. In his free time, his ‘book-a-holic’ side takes over; his favorite authors include Gabriel García Marquez, Thomas Friedman, John Grisham, Michela Wrong, Ngugi wa Thiongo, Elizabeth Gilbert, Malcolm Gladwell, Lawrence Wright and Doris Kearns Goodwin.
He also blogs about the crisis in Somalia as well as his experiences living there at the height of the conflict. You can read it at: www.maandeeqnation.com
He is very grateful to UPIU because they have provided him “with a platform to publish all my articles and tell the world about what I think about certain issues and events.”
Be sure to read his stories, feedback is greatly appreciated.
