About Sonja
I graduated from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia in 2008 with a BA in English, nonfiction writing and editing. I have a deep love for art and literature, and I try to travel as much as my schedule and budget allow.
I began working at UPI in 2004, starting as a receptionist. Due to a number of opportunities and a good deal of hard of work, I was able to move my way up, first into the marketing department, then into the UPIU department when it first came into being, and finally into the role of International Coordinator for UPIU.
On October 1, 2009, having made the decision to pursue a different career path, I passed the role of International Coordinator for UPIU to my colleague, Harumi Gondo.
As the former International Coordinator for UPIU, my responsibilities included overseeing the UPIU Website and project. I also helped to facilitate connections between our UPI editorial team and you, the UPIU users.
UPIU representatives are currently focusing on reaching out to aspiring journalists and institutions in Asia, Oceania, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and North America. That's a lot of ground to cover, and I know that everyone at the UPIU team is excited about all the progress that's been made so far!

Great images - the expressions on some of their faces are priceless!
