This is a good start on a profile about this student. The story needs other voices -- folks who know Ward talking about him. It also needs more of a "why do we care" element -- if Ward has helped some big-name politicians, does he have a big-time political aspiration?

This is a very well-reported sports story. Please watch UPI style to make sure you spell out names of universities and other things on first reference. Also, it would have been good to get comments from at least one player or from the folks who make the decisions about which games will be played by which teams in the future.

This is a textbook example of how to use one person's actions or comments to start a story. It humanizes the story and sets up the topic, rather than starting with a report's conclusions or a list of dry statistics. This is a perfect feature for a state news agency, but it needs a wider focus somehow to make it suitable for national circulation.
