Bike Track Facilities
University of Indonesia (UI) applies a habit of healthy life by providing bicycle inside campus area. There are also bike track, shelter, and officer in charge at every shelter. This facility is free of charge. The concept of bike track facilities is ‘green campus and world class campus’.
“Bike Track facility is also a proof that we concern about global warming problem”, said Prof. Dr. der Soz Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri, as a Rector of UI. Air pollution is too dangerous and UI want to try a healthy life system like what have done in other country. Gumilar has legitimated bike track facility since March 2nd 2008 and it cost six billion rupiah.
Student can use bicycle by smart card or their student card. They may stop at a certain shelter and change other bicycle. All of the bicycles are yellow and have a number. Student has to show their student card to the officer, officer will note down the number of bicycle and give student a bicycle card. After arrive at certain shelter, students must give back the bicycle to a nearest shelter and give the bicycle card to officer at that shelter.
UI cooperates with private company-Polygon- to provide bicycles. The length of bike track in UI is 10 kilometers which spread out from University Administration Center Building until student boarding house, and also from Faculty of Engineering until Faculty of Psychology.
